ME

My name is Nathan Loveland.  I have been taking pictures since the early 1970s and working with digital images since the mid '90s.  I started MidTexas Photography (MTP) as a sideline in 2010 but closed it temporarily in 2019 because of a job relocation.  After returning to the San Antonio area in 2022, I restarted MTP as a regular business.

This website is where I post art images for sale and examples of my service products.  My non-commercial images are displayed mainly on a companion website named Nathan's Nature.

My Images

Except where noted, all of my finished images started as a digital or film photograph taken by me.  Sometimes a finished image looks like the original and sometimes not, but every finished image is modified in some way during post-production digital editing.

My main goal is always to create a compelling image worthy of more than a passing glance, to which end I may remove distractions, modify structure, enhance color & clarity, or apply artificial effects.  Even so, I never make changes to the essential nature of a subject and claim it to be otherwise.  If I change the look, color, shape, or character of a thing, it will be obvious or I will say so if it matters, but otherwise I only care that the finished image looks the way I want.  Taking a picture is only the technical half of the task.  The other half, the art perhaps, is making it interesting & presentable, to which end I happily make whatever changes seem right to me.

My Tools

My current cameras are Canon R6MkIIs.  Lenses include Canon's RF100-500 f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM; RF24-105 f/4 L IS USM; EF50 f/1.2L USM; EF70-200 f/2.8L, IS II USM; EF28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Macro; and RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM.  I sometimes use a Canon Speedlight for flash, but most of my photos are taken hand-held in available light.

My post-shooting workflow involves many different software tools, but the main photo editing software is either PaintShop Pro or (more recently) On1's PhotoRaw Max and AiArty's excellent apps.  For the occasional video, I use Cyberlink Power Director.
